Computing

Intent

At Altofts Junior School, our intent is to provide a robust and inclusive computing curriculum through Purple Mash, fostering a deep understanding of computational thinking, digital literacy, and creativity. We aim to empower our students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love for learning within the realm of computing.

Implementation

Our computing curriculum, anchored in the Purple Mash platform, is structured to meet the diverse needs of our students and aligns with the National Curriculum for Computing. Through a carefully sequenced progression of lessons, we introduce key concepts such as programming, algorithms, data representation, and online safety. The implementation strategy involves a combination of hands-on activities, interactive projects, and collaborative tasks that cater to various learning styles.

Purple Mash offers a wealth of resources, including coding challenges, interactive simulations, and creative tools that enable our students to explore computing concepts in an engaging and supportive environment. Our teachers utilize a range of teaching methods, ensuring differentiation to accommodate individual learning preferences. Regular assessments and feedback loops are integral to monitor progress and tailor instruction to each child's needs.

We recognize the importance of real-world applications of computing skills and therefore incorporate cross-curricular projects where students can apply their knowledge in solving authentic problems. We promote a positive attitude towards technology by addressing ethical considerations, promoting responsible digital citizenship, and fostering a safe online environment.

Our commitment to professional development ensures that our teaching staff is equipped with the latest pedagogical strategies and technical skills. This enables them to guide and inspire students effectively, nurturing a generation of confident and capable digital citizens.

Impact

The impact of our computing curriculum is evident in the development of our students. Through regular assessment and feedback, we track individual progress, ensuring that each child attains a solid foundation in computing concepts. Students graduate with a proficiency in programming, problem-solving, and digital literacy, preparing them for future academic pursuits and the evolving job market.

Our computing curriculum fosters a love for learning and curiosity about technology, encouraging students to explore and create independently. By embedding computational thinking skills, we empower students to approach challenges systematically and think critically across various subjects.

Furthermore, the emphasis on online safety and responsible digital citizenship equips students with the knowledge to navigate the digital world securely, promoting a healthy relationship with technology.
