About Our School
Altofts Junior School is located on a very large site, close to the centre of Normanton. Most children come from the surrounding area and have attended either Lee Brigg Infant School or Martin Frobisher Infant School. The school was originally a middle school, but changed designation to a junior school for pupils aged seven to eleven in 2001. There are currently 330- pupils on roll, with three mixed ability classes in each of the four year groups.
The school runs a thriving Breakfast Club every morning in term time and there is a variety of after-school and lunchtime clubs including football, netball, drama, orchestra and choir. We have peripatetic music teachers from Wakefield Music Service who visit the school to teach violin, cello, guitar, flute, clarinet, brass and percussion, for those who wish to pay for instrumental tuition.
As a school we have a strong vision and commitment to the development of high quality teaching and learning, to raise standards and achievement and deliver an exciting and relevant curriculum in safe, positive, learning environments.
The majority of our pupils go to The Freeston Academy when they leave us and we work closely with Freeston to prepare our pupils for the next stage of their education.
